Effective February 12, the USC Office of International Services (OIS) will launch an online system for F-1 international students requesting Optional Practical Training (OPT) I-20s, as well as alumni requesting STEM OPT or CAP-GAP I-20s. This system will replace the current paper-based process.

The online OPT I-20 request system will be available Monday, February 12 at 8:30 AM.

After the initial OPT period, some students are eligible for STEM OPT or CAP-GAP extension of their employment authorization. These students’ F-1 immigration status remains under USC’s designation for the duration of their employment authorization. OIS continues to provide services for alumni during this time including document processing, advising, and by performing mandated SEVIS reporting and monitoring. To support these services, OIS will now require STEM OPT and CAP-GAP extension administration fees. These one-time fees will fund a new international student advisor position dedicated to supporting students and recent alumni in the OPT process, as well as the management of online resources.

Administration Fee Structure

Initial 12-month OPT $0 No fee
STEM OPT extension $200 Credit card payment due at the time of submission
CAP-GAP extension $100 Credit card payment due at the time of submission

OIS is committed to expanding services and support for USC’s international community, including alumni who remain in the US pursuing Optional Practical Training employment. Please contact us any time for assistance.
