As you may have read, the U.S. Department of State has directed U.S. embassies and consulates to pause scheduling new visa interviews for student and exchange visitor applicants pending further guidance about social media screening procedures. In addition, a new federal policy position announced by the secretary of state may lead to some student visas being revoked.

We know this news is concerning. Although details of these policy changes have not yet been released, we want to assure you that USC is closely monitoring the situation and is actively working to support affected students.

USC is here to support you as vital members of our Trojan Family. The university offers a number of resources, which we encourage you to access. Please also monitor the Office of International Services (OIS) website for the latest updates as well as answers to frequently asked questions. If you have questions, OIS advisors are always available, without an appointment, via Drop-in Advising.

As USC President Carol Folt has shared, international students are vital members of our Trojan Family and have been since our founding in 1880. Their joy, excitement and talent enrich our student experience and extend leadership capacity and economic prosperity from our region to the world. Their warmth, cultures and humanity enrich the global tapestry of Los Angeles.
